MORE than 200 alcoholic drinks were confiscated from under-age drinkers in a month-long operation.

Police were targeting youth disorder and made seven arrests plus the confiscation of 237 items of alcohol from underage drinkers.

Caerphilly Neighbourhood Policing Team ran Operation Together for four weekends throughout March and April right across Caerphilly.

During the operation the team made seven arrests for various offences including public order and criminal damage. A further 11 Anti-Social Behaviour Order (ASBO) referrals have been made and letters have been sent to the parents / guardians of those stopped.

They also confiscated 237 items of alcohol from underage drinkers. This included: * 215 cans of beer / lager * 14 bottles of lager * 3 bottles of cider * 2 bottles of vodka * 1 bottle of alcopop * 2 bottles of wine The operation was part of a response to tackle anti-social behaviour, which residents have highlighted as an area of concern, during the recent Partnership and Communities Together (PACT) meetings.

The Neighbourhood Policing Team increased their patrols of areas highlighted by local residents on Friday and Saturday evenings.

This includes current PACT priority areas across Senghenydd, Abertridwr, Trecenydd, Penyrheol, Caerphilly Town Centre, Morgan Jones Park and Churchill Park.

Aber Valley Neighbourhood Officer PC Isabelle Coulson helped to organise the operation. She said: "Youth disorder was clearly highlighted as a priority by residents at each of the PACT meetings in Caerphilly. This operation aimed to highlight to the minority who were taking part in anti-social behaviour in these areas that it is not acceptable. We will continue to proactively police these areas to help address the PACT priorities and improve the quality of life for residents."

Caerphilly Neighbourhood Sergeant Gavin Clifton, said: "Targeting and reducing anti-social behaviour is one of our key priorities. During this operation, the officers seized a large amount of alcohol and a number of letters have been sent home to the parents of those stopped, to highlight their behaviour. We are continuing to work with our partners to target anti-social behaviour and the sale of alcohol to underage drinkers. It is an issue that we are committed to continue to tackle through targeted operations such as this as well as our daily policing of the area."

Future PACT meeting dates in Caerphilly include: * Aber Valley PACT meeting - Wednesday July 9, 7pm, Senghenydd Community Centre * Penyrheol PACT meeting - Thursday May 29, 7pm, Penyrheol Community Centre * St. Martins PACT meeting - Monday July 21, 7pm, OAP Meeting Hall, Park Lane If you would like to find out more about your local Neighbourhood Policing Team, details of the current PACT priorities or the date of next PACT meeting in your area, please visit www.gwent.police.uk/localforyou
