Student is made-up with future plans

A FORMER Gwent student has launched her own business venture armed with the skills she learned in Cross Keys.

Charmaine Alriyamy, 22, has launched Sheer Glam - which offers freelance make-up work specialising in wedding, special events, fashion and photography make-up.

Although she worked for four years as a make-up consultant for Estee Lauder, she enrolled at a part time course in Theatrical Make Up last year at Coleg Gwent's Crosskeys Campus to ensure her skills were recognised.

She said: "Even though I had experience of working in the industry, the course really prepared me for work in television and film.

"We look at special effects, prosthetics, ageing and character make up, as well as the basic skills every professional make up artist needs."

In November last year Charmaine worked on the Swarovski Fashion Rocks show for the Prince's Trust, and had the chance to work some of her magic on supermodels such as Erin O'Connor.

"It's a bit daunting opening my own business, but I'm so excited," said Ms Alriyamy. "It'll be an opportunity for me to explore all the different types of make up artistry out there."
